Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know // No BS Czech

Getting Started

Yes. Every account gets 2 free practice sessions per day across all exercises. If you want unlimited practice, Pro Access removes the daily cap and unlocks a few extra tools.

Expats, immigrants, and anyone living in Czechia who needs practical, everyday Czech, rather than tourist phrasebook basics.

If you can't find advanced study materials, we can help you out there, too.

There are a few differences that make our platform stand out:

  • No BS Czech is challenging. We have it all: reading, listening, grammar, speaking, writing, slang. While you start with flash cards, you quickly graduate to harder questions. We also include level tests that target the hardest questions for you, personally. We think it's important to challenge you, not just give you a badge.
  • No BS is advanced. We are tired of seeing the same basic sentences everywhere! This isn't a rigid course that teaches you generic fillers. You'll see words and phrases you won't learn anywhere else. We help you expand your vocabulary and your ability to improvise, around topics you need right now.
  • No BS is customized. We analyze your prompts and the level you set, and we make quests that meet you where you are. Each word you practice is tracked by how well you understand it, and you see questions and vocabulary that get harder as you improve.
  • No BS is improving. We want to help you learn Czech and move on with your life! To do that, we're always testing and improving NoBS to perform better and save you time. If you're missing something, let us know and we'll integrate it.

No. You can turn diacritics off entirely under Account Settings → Study Settings → Require Diacritics if you'd rather practice without accents for now (though for the hardest tests, they are required!). If you do want to use them, check out our guide to installing a Czech keyboard.

Content & Sources

Every translation and grammatical form comes from Wikislovník, the Czech Wiktionary. Our example sentences come from Mozilla Common Voice, an open collection of Czech sentences written and read aloud by volunteers, released into the public domain (CC0). When a situation has too few real sentences, we fill the gaps with sentences written by AI, using only words from our vocabulary.

Our team reviews every word that is added to the platform. When you create a quest, you can practice the words right away, but they are marked in our database and adjusted if necessary, so that all quests use accurate translations and grammatical forms.

Billing & Account

Unlimited study time; pronunciation tools to use for comparing your speech against native speakers; personalized review exercises, for questions you've favorited; advanced progress statistics; long-form writing practice. Your first month of pro is free, so if you want to see it for yourself, subscribe!

Yes. Go to Account Settings → Subscription tab → Manage Subscription to open your billing portal and cancel whenever you like.

All of that lives under Account Settings → My Profile. Each field saves independently, so you don't need to update everything at once.

Go to Account Settings → My Profile → Delete Account. You'll be asked to confirm with your password (or email, for social logins) before anything is removed.

Your account data (username, email, password) is stored securely in our database, and is permanently deleted when you delete your account.

Prompts you enter are linked to your account, both for abuse tracking and for controlling which user can see which quests. When you delete your account or a quest, the link to your user is deleted, though the quest and prompt remain available for other users. If you would like us to completely delete a quest you created for all users, just send us a message and we'll do so.

Your personal study data (individual word scores, level calculations, test scores, etc.) is only used and available to you, and is deleted when you delete your account.

We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers. Any prompts we send to AI providers are not used for improving their systems or collecting data, and we do not share any personalized data with them (email addresses, gender, etc.).

If you allow tracking cookies, we use your location and language to better calibrate our product for all customers, though this information is not linked to your account in our database. You can turn this data collection off at any time, with no degradation of your learning experience, using the cookie button in the bottom-left of any page.

Practicing

Use the "Report error" link under any practice question to send us the details. We review every report.

Yes! In Account Settings → Study Settings you'll find toggles for speech sensitivity and learning intensity. Intensive mode requires higher accuracy and repeats failed words more often; Casual is more forgiving.

When you create a quest from a typed prompt, we automatically screen it for sexual, violent, hateful, or otherwise inappropriate content. Prompts that get flagged are held out of the shared quest pool and can't be practiced — not even by the person who created them — until an admin reviews and approves them. If you think your quest was flagged by mistake, contact us and we'll take a look.
